Paseo Maritimo for pedestrians TAKING advantage of the great weather yesterday I strolled down to see the Queen Mary 2 moored at the Paseo Maritimo. There were hundreds of people milling around. I just thought that if half of the Paseo could be closed off to traffic it could become a unique spot in Majorca. Imagine, if one side of the Paseo Maritimo was developed into a shopping and leisure area with open-air cafes, shops and restaurants. It could easily be done. If the council can close off part of the Borne they can easily do the same with the Paseo Maritimo, because motorists would be forced to use the Via Cintura. It has an added advantage because it would keep traffic out of the city centre. It would be a fantastic boost for Palma. There is no need for the Paseo Maritimo to be a race track. A single lane each way would be adequate. Perhaps, the city council should take note.

Theme Park good news
IT is good news that a theme park is set to be built in Calvia. As you would have read in yesterday's Bulletin the promoters have bought a large plot of land in Son Ferrer. Although there are naturally some planning concerns this is exactly what Majorca needs if winter tourists are to be attracted. One of Majorca's major faults at the moment is that there is little to do when the sun is not shining. This could be part of the answer. It is also another added attraction which will put the island even further on the map. I am so glad that the promoters have decided to push ahead with the project despite the initial planning problems. Originally, they wanted to build it in the Inca area but now Calvia has been selected.

The weather
AREN'T we lucky living on this fantastic island with all this fantastic weather. This October will surely go down as one of the hottest on record. When you look at the weather in the rest of Europe you can see why Majorca is so popular. The good news is that the good weather will continue throughout the weekend. See you down the beach! Coming soon
COMING soon at the Renoir cinema in Palma in English is Woody Allen's latest film, Melinda, Melinda. This comedy has enjoyed great reviews in the U.S. The film opens on Friday.

Full marks
FULL marks to the British government for giving free passports to the over 75s. It's not a lot but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
