By Humphrey Carter REAL Mallorca last night relieved coach Benito Floro of his duties and announced that Tomeu Llompart will take over for the time being. After Sunday's defeat against Real Sociedad, which left Mallorca joint bottom of the league with just five points out of a possible 24 from 8 games, the club were left with little option but to axe the coach.

Tomeu Llompart is no stranger to the side nor the fans, he has been at the club for years, training the juniors and the B team. He brought Mallorca back into the first division in 1996, when they beat Rayo Vallecano in the play-offs, and, three seasons ago, saved the side from relegation.

For the moment, he will be in charge for tomorrow night's King's Cup game away to Rayo Vallecano and will also be in charge of Sunday's home game against Racing Santander.

The club's decision has been welcomed by the fans, many of whom would have liked to have seen Floro sacked after the last home game ten days ago.See page 20
