FRIDAY night's storm and a freak tornado left Cala San Vicente, Pollensa and the port under water yesterday morning.
Fire crews spent most of the night and yesterday pumping out flooded car parks and basements after having received over 40 emergency calls during the early hours as up to 95 litres of rain fell per square metre while the torand ripped trees out of the ground and damaged buildings in the area. The weather alert was dropped in the Balearics yesterday lunch time but more rain, turning to hail at times, is on its way over the next four days.

Yesterday, 19 litres of rain fell per square metre in la Cabaneta (Marratxí), 12 litres in Sa Canova (Sa Pobla) and 4 litres at the Palma met office in Porto Pi.

The weather forecasters appear to have got it right for the long bank holiday with temperatures dropping slightly and occassional strong winds making many people change their plans.
