THE family of the missing Ibizan businessman Manel Vila Peris were still anxiously waiting for news of his whereabouts in Thailand yesterday as it emerged that at least two other Palma residents are missing.
A 28-year-old German estate agent Katerina who has lived in Palma for many years is missing along with her 30-year-old Swiss boyfriend Urs who works in the Majorcan construction industry. They travelled to Thailand on December 15 and had been staying in a beach-side bungalow in Phi Phi, another of the areas worst hit.
The couple were due to fly home to Palma on New Year's Day and despite concerted efforts to locate the two, they are still missing.
The Gispert family from Palma were counting themselves lucky last night. Jose and Margarita, both aged 39, are on holiday with their two sons aged 12 and nine in the Maldives.
Margarita's sister said yesterday that she has heard from them and they are safe and well although on Sunday they felt a tremor and the sea went brown in the resort they were in.
They were due to fly home from Colombo today, but are obviously delayed.
