THE coldest temperatures recorded at Son Sant Joan Airport last month was minus 4 degrees, and this is the coldest temperature in this area ever recorded in the first month of the year since 1985, when the temperature hit minus 6 degrees.

The coldest temperatures in January since 1978 were recorded at the Porto Pi Weather Station. For 27 years the temperature had never fallen below 0 degrees in the first month of the year in this area.

However, there were no record average temperatures for January this year. At Porto Pi, the average temperature for January 2005 was 10.8 degrees, whereas in previous years the average temperature was a lot lower: in 1987 it reached 10.7 degrees and in 1985 9.4 degrees. The Balearic Weather Office is warning that there could still be frosty mornings. They also said it was unlikely to snow or to rain heavily in the next few days.
