By Humphrey Carter THIS Spring a major international thriller is going to be shot in Majorca and English-speaking actors and actresses are wanted for the production which is due to start shooting on the island in April.

The film “The Kovak Box” is going to be directed by the leading international feature film director, Majorcan Daniel Monzon and will be, for the most part, shot in English. The leading parts are going to top US and British actors and actresses - hence the need for a mostly English speaking secondary local cast.

Produced and made by FILMAX, Spain's leading production and distribution house, and Estudios Picasso with an estimated budget of at least seven million euros. The action-thriller is expected to shoot in various parts of the island, but in particular on location in Arenal, Magalluf and the Arta Caves.

In addition Palma's red light district and various stately homes are going to be used.
The film is about a best-selling author David Norton who comes to Majorca to attend a conference. His fictional world starts to become all too real as people, including his fiancee, start committing suicide.

FILMAX are keeping the identification of the lead actors and actresses quiet for the moment, but initially names like Benicio del Toro and Elena Anaya were linked to the project.

They have now been ruled out, but the production company says that the cast is of the same calibre.
This is not the first time Monzon has filmed in Majorca.
In 2002 he shot a number of scenes for the Madrid-set action comedy “The Biggest Robbery Ever Told” at Palma airport and has been wanting to film a major feature on the island ever since.

The project has attracted the maximum support from the Balearic government which believes the film will provide great publicity for the island.
The main reason it is mostly being filmed in English is to maximise its pull on the international market. However certain parts are going to be filmed in Majorcan.

FILMAX and Estudios Picasso will be holding their casting session tomorrow, March 3 between 10am and 7pm at the Santa Catalina Cultural Centre in calle Dels Sobreosats, No 3.

The producers are looking for actors and actresses aged over 18 who speak English, although the level of English is not the most important factor.
