News Desk THE Balearic Islands have more foreign residents than any other Spanish region and this includes a 15.6 percent increase in the number of British residents registered on the Balearic census in the last year, according to statistics unveiled by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

During last year 23'477 more foreigners were registered on the Balearic census to bring total foreign figures up to 154'900, according to the 1 January 2005 census.

The total population also increased last year, with 2.6 percent increase and a total of 980'472.
There was an astonishing 58.2 percent increase in the number of residents from Romania registered on the Balearic census last year, as well as a 31.9 percent increase of Bulgarian residents. The President of INE, Carmen Alcaide, said that these figures are only provisional as further filters are still needed.
