Staff Reporter ALCUDIA will have it's own stand at the IFMA Tourism Fair which will be held from 15 until 18 September in the German city of Cologne, said the councillor for Tourism in the Council of Majorca, Francisco Javier Buils, and the local councillor for Tourism in Alcudia, Miguel Llompart.

The stand to promote Alcudia has been made possible thanks to help from the Council of Majorca and the Consortium for Tourism Promotion based in Alcudia.

The stand will be reinforced by the presence of local and island authorities such as the Director for Tourism, José Bester and councillor Miguel Llompart, who will both be attending the German fair.

The aim of the stand is to promote and market Alcudia as a top quality tourism destination, and at the same time make a mark for Majorca as a whole. In addition, it is hoped that the coverage will help boost winter tourism on the island.

The IFMA fair is a specialist event for the international tourism market. As such it is expected that more than 500 exhibitors from 60 different countries will be at the German fair, and also 22'000 professionals from the tourism sector. “With this stand we want to promote the town and the sporting events which the Council of Majorca is supporting, and also to promote Majorca, which is looking to offer something more than sun, sea and sand holidays, looking towards tourism where sport and nature combine in a magnificient and original way”, said Buils.

Initiatives like this can contribute to “changing” the typical tourism market in Majorca and the Balearic Islands, which is based on around 12 million tourists who want sun and beaches, added the representative from the Tourism department in the Council of Majorca. Alcudia will not be the only Majorcan presence at the fair, as Llucmajor town council will also have a stand, as will the Hipotels hotel chain.

If the outcome of taking part in the IFMA Fair is positive, then Alcudia will be adding Cologne to the list of tourism fairs where it has a stand, along with the Fitur fair in Madrid, ITB in Berlin and World Travel Market in London.
