Newsdesk THE secretary general of PIMECO (Small and Medium Sized Businesses Association), Angel Pujol, yesterday described the Summer sales period, which ended yesterday in the Balearics, as “good”.

This was due mainly to the presence of a great number of visitors to the islands and the fact that August was a month when the climate was favourable for “going shopping”.

Pujol explained that, during this period, there had been another positive factor which had translated into a greater amount of sales, which was the “breaking of the trend to go for the cheapest” in resident consumers.

Although the first days of the sales were good, with a large influx of people into the shops, this changed in July due to the high temperatures experienced in this month.

However, August was more “favourable” for the sales, as the climate helped to bring people out shopping, said the spokesperson for PIMECO.
Nevertheless, Pujol insisted that this was a first impression, as there were no concrete figures available yet about the amount taken at the tills. But he said that the estimates made by their Majorcan members pointed to an average outlay of 120 euros per family.
