TRAVEL agents on the islands which specialise in long distance package tours have been unusually busy for Winter (between 8 and 10 percent), according to the Balearic Association of Travel Agents (Aviba).

This, they say, is due to the economic bonanza and the good tourist season, yielding profits which were unthinkable at the beginning of May.
There is a greater demand for long distance holidays to exotic places, the average prices of which vary between 1'500 and 3'300 euros, and which can cost as much as 5'000 or 6'000 euros per person. “This Winter there has been a boom in bookings for Chile and Argentina, as well as Peru, Galapagos, Indochina and combined holidays such as Ecuador and Peru. “To this must be added the fact that the United States is on the rise, with organised tours to all states”, said sources from the tour groups Iberojet, Tiempolibre-Mundicolor and Marsans.
