Newsdesk MRS Denise Holt CMG has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to Spain and Her Majesty's Non-Resident Ambassador to the Principality of Andorra, in succession to Sir Stephen Wright KCMG.

Mrs Holt will take up her new appointment in May 2007. “It is an honour to be appointed Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, a region I have known for many years through my work in the Foreign Office and before. “I look forward to taking up this appointment to carry on working to strengthen the relationship between our countries,” she said.
Mrs Holt, who is married and has one son, worked in the Research Department of the FCO from 1970 to 1984, when she was appointed First Secretary, Chancery, in Dublin.

She served in that post from 1984 to 1987, and then held the same post in Brasilia from 1991 to 1993. Mrs Holt then served as Assistant Head of the Eastern Department at the FCO and Deputy Head of Personnel Management Department between 1993 and 1998, before being appointed Deputy Head of Mission in Dublin. She served as HM Ambassador in Mexico City from 2002-05, and prior to her new appointment she was FCO Director of Migration and Overseas Territories.
