PALMA
USERS of Palma's underground car parks will be charged by the minute from April 1.
This was announced by Alvaro Gijon, the deputy mayor of the Citizen Security department and President of the Municipal Society of Palma Car Parks (SMAP), who said that the Palma city council had reached an agreement with the concession holders for all the car parks which are not run by the SMAP.

The meeting at which the agreement was reached was the result of a process of negotiation.
The basis for the agreement was that a charge of 2.16 centimos per minute would be levied, which works out at 1.30 euros an hour (at the moment it is 1.20 an hour).

This means that everyone who parks in these car parks for a period of less than an hour (40 percent of all users) will benefit from this new measure.
The car parks which are now managed or will shortly be managed by SMAP are those in the Via Roma, Parc de la Mar, Calle Santa Pagesa, Calle Manacor, Calle Comte d'Empuries, Calle Antoni Maura, and Parc de Sa Riera.

The car parks which are run by concession are the Plaza Major, Calle Comtat del Rossello, Calle Bisbe de Berenguer de Palou, Calle Comte de Sallent, Plaza d'España, the Avenidas, Sa Gerreria, Plaza de l'Olivar and S'Escorxador.
