IN March the Balearics led the field for occupation in rural tourism accommodation, with 33.7 percent of the places occupied and 23'300 overnight stays
This was a 4.2 decrease in comparison with March 2006, according to figures published yesterday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Of the total overnight stays for this type of accommodation, more than 21'700 were made by foreign tourists, while 1'500 were made by Spanish visitors, with an average stay of 4.07 days in both cases, which was 1.7 days less that in March 2006.

The Balearics was also the third region with the greatest occupation in its tourist apartments, which were 66.5 percent full, 10 percentage points more than in March 2006, although the average stay decreased by 1.17 days to 8.48 days.
