SPANISH hotel companies are expanding in a big way in the Caribbean, with developments planned for 10'000 rooms in tourist complexes in both the Spanish and English-speaking sectors of the Islands.

According to Enrique de Marchena, president of the Caribbean Hotel Association who was speaking yesterday at the Gran Meliá Victoria in Palma, Balearic hotel chains are laying claim to between 75 and 80 percent of the 20'000 places that the construction programme will provide.
