BALEARIC Health minister, Vicenç Thomas has defended the option for nurses of wearing trousers at hospitals and health centres in Spain as they “are well suited to the nature of their work.” Thomas was speaking at the Balearic University in response to a political row which emerged after management at the San Rafael Clinic in Cadiz demanded that their female nursing staff wear skirts during working hours. “It's not a question of whether a skirt should be short or long,” said Vicenç but rather one of a garment that is comfortable and suitable for the tasks that nursing staff have to carry out, and one which upholds the dignity of the individual.
