THE Balearic Parliament unanimously approved a motion yesterday to urge the central Spanish government to set up a fixed radar system round the entire coastline of the islands to counter drug trafficking by sea.

The proposal, formally raised by the Unió Mallorquina party (UM) received the assent of all groups including the major Partido Popular Opposition party (PP). The latter commented however that the motion has come “rather late” seeing that the programme for such a radar system had already been announced by central government delegate Ramon Socias on 23rd August this year.
