Police investigate three deaths in Ibiza blast

THE Guardia Civil were yesterday investigating the causes of an explosion in Sant Antoni de Portmany on Ibiza which killed a girl suffering from Downs Syndrome and her parents. Suicide has not been discounted.

Specialist officers were at the scene of the tragedy yesterday morning, the garage of a building in Calle de Gaudi in the centre of Sant Antoni. The central government delegate in the Balearics, Ramon Socias, said in Palma that “everything is pointing towards suicide.” The head of the Ibizan fire service, Miguel Sevilla, told reporters yesterday that three butane tanks had been found in the garage, along with evidence of the presence of gas and some unspecified fuel which could have been petrol, “or perhaps some kind of alcohol.”
