THE response to the creation of a new group to represent British and Irish residents and businesses in the Balearics has been “brilliant,” according to one of its founders.

The Asociacion de Britanicos, Irlandeses Residentes, Empresarios y Trabajadores en Las Baleares was formed by a group of Santa Ponsa residents to safeguard the interests of workers, residents and businesses throughout the region. It is campaigning on a wide range of issues from winter tourism to more policing. Former UK crime prevention officer Jim Bryceland, who is behind the plan with fellow ex-pats Linda Ledwidge, Jane Covill and Ray Durkin, said he had been approached by scores of local people when touring the Calvia area.
