PALMA
THOUSANDS of euros raised in aid of a dogs' charity are still languishing in a bank account two years after the event.
Majorca's charity golf king Robert Winsor MBE organised the Dogs Like Us event in November 2006 to raise cash to build state-of-the-art new kennels for Calvia-based SOS Animals. But he claimed the mistreated and vulnerable animals have been betrayed by Calvia bureaucrats, who have failed to give permission for work to start.

Over 70'000 euros was raised by the golf event and auction, but because of a series of delays work on the kennels has failed to proceed.
Now, Robert and co-organiser Glenda Dean, are forwarding the golf and auction proceeds to other needy animal welfare organisations across the island.
Centro Canino in Palma has been given 11'000 euros to soundproof the kennels at its dog rescue centre, while the cost of one year's worth of food will also be covered.

Other donations have been made to First Aid for Animals group in Felanitx for new kennels, repairs to existing accommodation and other outstanding projects. Robert said the remainder of the cash will be kept for SOS-use until the second anniversary of the golf tournament on November 22.
