PALMA
IT'S not over yet, confirmed the regional Met office yesterday - the Balearics is going to be on Amber Alert this weekend with winds expected to rage at 90 kilometres per hour both Saturday and Sunday across most of Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera and localised rainfall forecast to be torrential.

Yesterday, Emergency services activated operations for Yellow Alert conditions at sea in spite of the fact that winds were blowing no more than 70 kph. However, Met Office chief Agustin Jansa asserted yesterday that for the weekend, shipping in the Islands needs to be aware that a weather warning is being issued for Gale Force 8.

The night of Saturday through to the early hours of Sunday morning are expected to witness the worst of the weather. Jansa said that as Sunday progressed, the high state of alert would gradually ease off although weather would remain unstable in the region throughout the early part of next week.
