PALMA
THE local authorities in Callas de Mallorca are calling for the same treatment as the Playa de Palma claiming that the local tourists resort also needs a major makeover if it is expected to compete with new and emerging destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

An ambitious reformation project has been drawn up for the Playa de Palma in a bid to inject some new life into the aging resort. The former Balearic Minister for Employment and ex-Mayor of Calvia, Margarita Najera, has been put in charge of the Playa de Palma commission and the authorities and tourist industry in Callas de Mallorca want the commission to also listen to their fears and concerns for their future and examine ways in which the commission can help reform the local tourists resorts which have seen winter tourism all but disappear over recent years and the summer season shorten.
