ALL three members of a German family suffered multiple injuries of varying degrees after the Renault Clio in which they were travelling hit the central reservation along the Palma to Andratx motorway yesterday morning and flipped over on to its side causing traffic chaos.

The cause of the accident at 8.15am was still being investigated last night but it appears that the driver of the German-plated vehicle lost control of the Clio near the Santa Ponsa roundabout and rolled the vehicle blocking all traffic heading in the direction of Palma.

The parents and young daughter were all trapped inside the wreckage and had to be cut free by fire fighters while the various police forces tried to keep the heavy rush hour traffic flowing as best as possible but the motorway eventually came to a grinding halt in both directions as the rescue operation was completed and the three victims rushed to Son Dureta and Palma Planas hospitals in Palma in a fleet of ambulances.

Two of the victims were said to have been stable last night having escaped with only minor injuries, but a third was apparently in a serious condition.
Their vehicle was a complete wreck. Fire fighters using cutting gear had to slice the roof of the car off in order to free all of the trapped victims inside.
