PALMA
JOSEP Juan Cardona, Parliamentary Member for the Opposition Partido Popular, yesterday accused the regional Minister for Energy and Industry of not bringing power supply company Gesa to task for their failure to take responsibility for an all-day power failure on 13th November this year . “I haven't heard that the Minister, Francesca Vives, has started proceedings to fine the power company for trying to blame the reason for the electricity blackout on a non-existent reason,” he said, making reference to a power supply cut which left most districts of both Majorca and Minorca in the dark for a complete day.

Parliamentary debate yesterday focused on the débacle which Gesa had orginally attributed to a lightning strike hitting the generating station of El Murterar in Alcudia - a cause which days later was discounted by Balearic government spokesperson Joana Barcelo.
