JOAQUIN Rabasco, previously an Independent Party town councillor in Llucmajor and recently sentenced to six years of jail for the alleged misappropriation of public funds, went to jail on Majorca yesterday after a Balearic court declared there was a risk of him fleeing the country. Rabasco's lawyer, Ramon Riutort, said that although the original demand for bail of 800'000 euros has been lowered to 120'000 euros, Rabasco had not been able to come up with the money himself or find anyone else to do so on his behalf. Rabasco had allegedly procured 1 million euros of public money for dealings with four companies in which he had a directorship whilst he was part of the ruling Partido Popular coalition.
