Unemployed: a third are foreign

NEARLY a third of those registered on the dole queue in the Balearics are foreigners. An employment watchdog in the Islands reported yesterday that of the 70'144 finding themselves without work last month, 19'900 are non Spanish nationals.

Of this latter figure, 7'016 are foreigners coming from the European Union and the rest come from countries which are not Member States. Measuring the data against that for the same month last year, unemployment amongst the foreign community has risen by 7'687 people, 2'180 of whom come from the EU and 5'507 from outside it.
