SANTA PONSA
SHOPPERS in Santa Ponsa are being asked to donate a food item to help a charity for the homeless today (Saturday).
Volunteers from the Lions Club of Calvia will be stationed at two stores in the town asking customers of the area's biggest supermarkets to purchase just one extra tin or packet of food which will be collected and handed to the Palma refuge for the homeless, operated by charity ZAQUEO.

Lions Club members will be on duty at the two Eroski stores on Rey Jaime I between 10am and 2pm.
Emily Saunders, public relations officer, said they were hoping to collect as many non-perishable items as possible to be donated to the refuge. “If people buy just one extra tin it will go a long way,” she explained.
The collection will be repeated the following weekend and Lions member are hoping shoppers will enter the Christmas spirit and ensure that Majorca's homeless population receive some festive cheer. “We will be outside the stores and giving out leaflets in three languages explaining about what we are trying to acheive,” added Emily yesterday.
The public relations officer continued: “This is the first time we have done this and we are very hopeful we will receive the support of the hundreds of customers visiting the stores on those mornings.”
