OSCAR-winning actress Emma Thompson heads to Majorca in March to begin shooting a movie about Victorian art critic John Ruskin.
Emma, who recently starred in the film version of Brideshead Revisited, has penned a script about the controversial critic and writer. Husband Greg Wise will star as Ruskin when filming of the raunchy movie commences in Majorca after Christmas. Shooting of the film, provisionally entitled Effie, after Ruskin's wife Effie Gray, will mainly take place in the Palma area. “We've written a script together about John Ruskin, the Victorian art critic, which we wanted to make into a film. It has now got the go-ahead,” said Emma. “It's about his very peculiar marriage with Effie Gray,” added the actress. The marriage was non-consummated and Effie later had it annulled before wedding painter John Everett Millais.

Apparently Ruskin was repulsed by the sight of his wife's naked body and the annulment barred Effie from some social functions. She was not allowed in the presence of the queen, so if the monarch was present at a party then Effie was not invited.
