PALMA
OVER thirteen million euros is going to be spent on enlarging Manacor Hospital by 2010 so that it will be able to cope with growing demand.
The Balearic Minister for Health, Vicenç Thomas, said yesterday that because of the increase in the population in the area, more medical facilities and staff are needed to provide adequate levels of care. Parts of the existing hospital are also going to be reformed and improved as part of an overall three-year project recently given the green light by the government.

The hospital is now having to try and handle 40 percent more patients than in 1998 and apart from the strain on the medical services, local residents have also complained about the lack of parking on site and the poor public transport links to the hospital.

All these issues are also going to be redressed over the next three years.
