THE Balearic meteorological centre yesterday forecast a warm and dry start to the New Year.
The head of the local met. office Agusti Jansa, said yesterday morning that temperatures will rise slightly today and conditions will remain calm over the next few days.- On New Year's Eve, temperatures will fall to minimums of around 9ºC or 10ºC while daytime maximum temperatures will reach as high as 14ºC and 15ºC.
Fortunately, the Balearics escaped the grip of the fierce storm which hit the coast of Catalonia over the weekend. Four people were killed and millions of euros of damage was caused to resorts by gale force winds and heavy rains.

However, a change in the weather is forecast for the weekend.
A cold front will hit Spain on Friday bringing widespread rain and strong winds and will gradually make its way west across the country, reaching the Balearics on Saturday.

But, by the time the front does reach us here in the Balearics it is expected to have weakened significantly and only light showers and the odd, isolated downpour is forecast.

Temperatures will also drop slightly over the weekend.
