NEWSDESK PALMA'S Son San Joan airport handled more low cost flights last year than any other Spanish airport. Figures released by the Ministry for Industry, Tourism and Commerce, revealed yesterday that Palma handled 5.2 million low cost passengers during 2008, 9.5 percent more than during the previous year.


A total of just over 29 million passengers flew to Spain with a low cost airline last year giving the low cost airlines a 48.4 percent share of the total market.

The three top low cost airlines were Ryanair, Air Berlin and Easyjet and the biggest market is the UK.
Just under 11 people flew into Spain from the UK with a low cost airline, nearly eight percent more than during 2007 and well up on the 7.1 million German low cost passengers.
