PALMA
THE National police robbery squad in Palma has arrested an organised crime gang on charges of breaking and entering and drug smuggling.
Investigations had begun in May after three people broke into a property in Calle San Vicente Ferrer in Palma from where they stole jewels and money. Police suspect, however, that what they were really after was drugs. Days later, the same group forced their way into another property in the suburb of Rafal, making off with jewels and drugs which they later sold on the black market. Officers were apparently able to ascertain that one of the gang was separately a member of a large scale drug-trafficking racket. He apparently used his knowledge of the underworld to tell the first gang where money and drugs were likely to be found. Arrests were made on Thursday and yesterday. The suspects were apparently arrested in the middle of a cocaine sale. Police are not ruling out further arrests.
