PALMA'S municipal cleaning company Emaya has installed 120 selective rubbish containers along the Playa de Palma between the Sant Antoni sailing club at Can Pastilla and the Judíos torrent.
The Council has now fulfilled the agreement it signed in May this year with the Mar de Mallorca company which manages this stretch of coastline. Sixty green containers are for glass and 60 yellow for containers such as plastic bottles and tins. Each one has a capacity of 240 litres and all will be emptied daily by Mar de Mallorca. The contents will be stored in special holding tanks ceded by Emaya for eventual recycling. Emaya president Cristina Cerdó said yesterday that the recycling process means that less waste ends up having to be incinerated.
