STAFF REPORTER PALMA “DON'T throw them away” (no les llancis) is the slogan of the Balearic business (PIME-Baleares) foundation's tin can collection campaign. For every 25 cans collected, the foundation will give one euro to Catholic charity, Caritas .

Of the sixteen years that the seasonal can collection campaign has been in operation, more than half a million are donated annually. As a result, last year, the foundation were able to hand Caritas a cheque for 20'000 euros.

Backed by the regional Environment ministry and the Sa Nostra banking group, the campaign is to be presented today at the TIRME environmental technology and waste recycling park in Palma.

The campaign is also sponsored by the Council of Majorca, the Deixalles charity and different media groups.
Attending today's presentation will be the Council of Majorca's Environment director, Catalina Julve; the President of the PIME-Baleares foundation, Tomas Garrido, the President of the small to medium-sized business association of Majorca (PIMEM), Juan Cabrera and Bernardi Segui, Sa Nostra's Institutional Relations director.
