Continuing with our series supporting the animal refuges across the island with Phoenix Media and some of Majorca's professional photographers.
This week focuses on The Society for the Protection of Animals and Plants of Mallorca.
The organisation was founded in Palma in 1949 by Damian Mayans, Luisa and Isabella Perello Ferret, in order to protect animals and plants in Majorca, and promote respect for them.  The first shelter was installed on the road to Valldemossa.
Since its inception the organisation has been dedicated to picking up stray animals and finding them homes.  It has a 24-hour service for the collection of animals and provides advice on anything related to animals.
Over the years SPAP has collected and treated a wide variety of animals, from small birds, to dogs, cats, gulls, turkeys, sheep, donkeys and even on one occasion a lion cub.

Luisa Perello, founder and soul of the Humane Society, continued to work in the refuge until his death, supported throughout by Arturo Lope, President, Perello's right hand, Nini Bordoy (pictured) has taken over as the director of the 63 year old organisation.

You can get in contact with them by calling 971 47 00 60 or emailing contacto@spapmallorca.com.
Pictured with Nini is a striking white cat with the name ‘Blanket'. Blanket was rescued from the streets and has been living at the refuge for the past three months. He is about a year old.

They say at the refuge that Blanket ‘likes his comforts' which is a Majorcan euphemism for lazy! He has beautiful fur and one green eye and one blue eye.
He is looking for a loving home where he can continue to enjoy his comforts! Visit www.petprojectmallorca.com for more information about other animals which need rehoming.
