Palma.—The management company running the tourist office in Parc de la Mar has left the job for good, confirmed the city's Tourism Director Javier Bonet.

He explained that until a new contract is awarded in June to different managers, Tourist Bus staff will “fill in” by helping visitors to the information bureau as best they can. Because of its strategic location, the office is the most popular in Palma with the highest number of visitors every day. Bonet said that staff of the Tourist Bus company, which is a member of Palma's newly created Tourism Foundation promoting all-year-round tourism, will provide information free of charge to visitors, instead of acting as guides just for their own clients.

Bonet said that the City Council had become aware that the former managers were not running the tourist information office in Parc de la Mar properly - it had been noticed that only one person was on duty at any one time and adequate training was not being given to new staff. After meetings with company lawyers, the City Council is taking action against the organisation for failure to meet its obligations.
