The Partido Popular government is to introduce legislation which will prevent 25 percent of the cabinet of President José Ramon Bauzà from being given any form of salary rise, Minister Antoni Gomez confirmed yesterday.

Gomez pointed out that the present government is saving 3.4 million euros on staff costs in comparison to the team under the region's previous Socialist President, Francesc Antich.

Gomez was speaking yesterday in response to the General Workers' Union's statement that they are considering taking the government to court over “illegal” salary rises which were given to some members of Bauzà's team when the Partido Party came to power last May.
