Palma.—Balearic Minister for Tourism and Sports, and former Mayor of Calvia, Carlos Delgado has called on Central Government to find a way to bring down airport taxes in the Balearic Islands. Delgado wants the Minister for Industry and Tourism José Manuel Soria to work with the Ministry for Public Works, Ana Pastor to secure a tax reduction for the Islands based on the fact that the Balearics has extra costs by virtue of their being remote from the mainland and because tourism is the region's economic motor.

Speaking at a meeting of Spain's Tourist Board chaired by Soria, Delgado also said the two ministries should take whatever action is necessary to enable more cruiseliners to come to the Islands. Delgado suggested that Central Government needs to provide support through funding improved port installations.
