Andratx.— The Partido Popular (PP)Mayor of Andratx Llorenç Suau said yesterday that the land is being rented by the local council after a bid had gone out to public tender for the provision of parking facilities.

The Mayor confirmed that the site will cost 1'100 euros a month in public funds over the next four years. Suau said that the municipal Roads and Works department is currently undertaking the tasks of cleaning and making ready the ground.

Apparently, small bulldozers have had their work cut out for them by thickets and vegetation embedded between the trees. The ground needs to levelled completely before resurfacing can begin. According to Suau, this new parking arrangement will solve traffic circulation problems which had built up over time around Calle Llibertat after the previous council in Andratx had eliminated the two way system, widened pavements and allowed kerb-side parking.

Return to two-way traffic
Calle Llibertat is apparently one of the most used streets in Andratx by drivers heading in the direction of s'Arracó, and because of the circulation difficulties, the present council has now decided to get rid of the kerb-side parking and allow two-way traffic once again.

The new car park, said the Mayor is principally being set up to house those cars which up until this time have been parking onthe street.
