Palma.—Yesterday morning, an unsuspecting couple opened the front door of their chalet in Campanet only to be confronted by two armed and masked men.
The assault on the property was carried out at 11am in broad day light and, according to the husband and wife victims, were extremely violent.
The two men stormed into the house, manhandled the couple, tied them up and forced them to provide the numbers for the safe.
Terrified
The 68-year-old former owner of a construction company and his 66-year-old wife were terrified and eventually gave in to the violent attackers, one of whom was brandishing a pistol and searching the house for any valuables until the couple decided to cooperate.

In total, 1'200 euros was stolen from the safe and when the armed robbers finally fled the property they left the two elderly people tied up.
However, they did manage to free themselves relatively quickly and immediately called the Guardia Civil who deployed various patrols to the scene while setting up road blocks around the village and also put up a helicopter to start combing the area from the air while the two victims were rushed to Muro Hospital.

Emergency service sources said the wife was in a severe state of shock and there were also concerns for the well-being of her husband.
Hunt continued
As of going to press last night, the hunt for the two armed men continued and there was a great sense of alarm in the town where the couple was extremely well known.
