The Es Garrover foundation has set up a project whereby the mentally handicapped have the chance to become instrumental in running an eco-friendly vegetable growing project supplying quality restaurants on Majorca.
The scheme, entitled Ecogourmet is operating on the Cas Batliu estate in Lloseta and is currently providing the freshest vegetables of the moment to the Santi Taura restaurant in Lloseta and the El Jardin restaurant in Alcudia. The project, the result of collaboration between the Es Garrover foundation and banking group La Caixa, has been launched in an area where plots have lain abandoned for years. It is based on a similar experiment already tried in Catalonia.
