Palma.—There was real concern in Sa Pobla last year when the 2011 Jazz Festival drew to a close, that no funds would be available to hold the event in 2012.

Withdrawal of local authority funding meant that a festival which has been growing in international prestige would have to be sidelined.
However, there has been enthusiatic collaboration over finding the money to hold this year's jazz festival among bars, restaurants and cafeterias in Plaça Major in Sa Pobla. This joint venture has been widened to include a number of companies and the Orizonia Foundation. Such has been the response of sponsorship that the council won't have to pay a single euro.

The festival opens on 7th August with a performance by British singer and guitarist Dani Wilde. Her fusion of soul and blues will include her latest record Juice Me Up.

A septet of musicians led by trumpeter Felix Rossy will stage their contribution in the Plaça on 14th August. Two days later, an ensemble featuring Japonese pianist Satoko Fuki will play live whilst a silent version of the film Phantom of the Opera is screened; a quartet including saxophonist Noah Preminger and guitarist Ben Monder will give a rendering of their version of contemporary jazz on 21st August.

All the concerts start at 10.30pm in Plaça Major except the one given by Anglo Norwegian guitarist Krissy Matthews on 10th August which will be in Sala Rex.
