Palma.—Jose Maria Rodriguez, the central government delegate to the Balearics, yesterday resigned following claims that he is being investigated for alleged corruption between 2003 and 2007 when he was Balearic Interior Minister for President Jaume Matas.

Rodriguez made the announcement during a surprise press conference yesterday afternoon.
He also used the press conference to maintain his innocence and proclaimed that “with time” it will be proven.
However, in the meantime, he has decided to step down and let the judicial course take its due process while he sets about defending his innocence. He was named central delegate by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on December 30 and thanked the PM for having had such faith in him for the position.
