Soller's Partido Popular (PP) Mayor, Carlos Simarro confirmed yesterday that he has approved a bylaw enabling the setting up nine new areas in the town and port of Soller where drivers will have to pay to park their cars.

Managed by the “ORA” parking wardens, the new pay areas comprise streets and plots of land which currently provide free municipal parking. These nine sites are in addition to the 14 which were established a fortnight ago but which still haven't started functioning as pay parking zones because the metres were vandalised.

There has been opposition from local residents to all the new pay parking in the town and port of Soller, b ut particularly to the ticketed zone in Calle Bisbe Colom and on the site of the old “Fantasio” cinema, recently ceded by the proprietor. The parking at Can Miró has spaces for 141 vehicles and has been approved by the Coastal department.
