Palma.—After months of investigation, the Nation al Police narcotics squad mounted a series of raids on properties in the conflictive Palma neighbourhood of Son Gotleu early yesterday morning. “Operation Rome” resulted in the closure of two drug dens and the arrests of the two people suspected of being responsible for running the drugs outlets.

The two Moroccans were arrested yesterday afternoon after members of the drugs squad spent most of the morning searching two properties in the area.
Police seized six kilos of hashish and varying quantities of cocaine and marijuana along with 3'500 euros in cash. Both of the suspects apparently have criminal records for drugs trafficking and the two men were being held in custody last night.

Police chiefs hailed the operation a success in the war on petty drug dealers and were not ruling out further arrests over the coming days last night.
