Palma.—The present Bishop of Majorca, Jesús Murgui, is to be promoted at the end of September to the Diocese of Orihuela in Alicante.
The bishop currently holding the post in Alicante is retiring.
At a press conference yesterday at the Episcopal Palace in Palma, Bishop Murgui explained that the Bishop of Alicante was retiring voluntarily and that his name had been put forward as a replacement.

Bishop Murgui is in fact originally from Valencia, a region within which the province of Alicante falls.
As yet, said Murgui, there have been no proposals for his own replacement here on Majorca but that it could be a matter of months before a choice is decided.

Murgui was annointed a bishop by Pope John Paul II in 2003.
