Port Soller.— “Hello, HMS Middleton, HMS Pembroke, this is Soller Naval Base, over...” the second-in-command of the Soller Naval base gives the first of the many welcome messages to the visiting Royal Navy warships by radio at just after 8am yesterday morning. The historic visit was about to begin. Awaiting on the quayside was Commodore Frederick Pryce, Royal Navy, and Captain Paco Arenas, Spanish Navy. These two men have been the driving force behind the visit of the two mine-hunters to Soller who are returning home after almost three years in the Persian Gulf. Like clock-work and led by HMS Middleton the two vessels made the tight squeeze into the naval base. This was history in the making. The white ensign was flying in Soller. Cont. P8-9.
