Balearic Vice-President and Economy Minister Josep Ignasi Aguiló said yesterday that considering figures show that the public deficit of the Balearic Islands stood at just 0.4% of gross regional product (PIB) during the second quarter of 2012, it appears that the policies begun by Partido Popular President José Ramón Bauzá are “starting to bear fruit.” Responding to a question in the Balearic parliament yesterday, Aguiló said that the deficit in the 2nd quarter had been 106 million euros (0.4% of PIB) when in June 2011, the figure had been 667 million euros (2.51% of PIB). He said the Balearics was the third most successful region in the country in terms of control of its deficit.
