Palma.—Around 100 people have supported a protest which takes place every Friday at hospitals in the Balearics. Yesterday, demonstrators were at Son Llatzer hospital east of Palma to criticise how the centre was being managed, the abusive work schedules for staff and to complain that there is no Health and Safety Committee in operation, nursing union Satse reported.

The protest ended with demonstrators descending on the offices of senior management although no directors were present at the time. However, complaints were officially handed over to an employee who promised to “pass on the message” to the appropriate department.

The nursing union claims that increased pressure on staff violates the original terms and conditions of employment. “Employees are now having to work at least half an hour longer each day,” a representative claimed.
