Unions ask Balearic government to halt the decline in industry Representatives from the General Workers Union (UGT) and the Workers Commission (CCOO) demonstrated yesterday morning in front of the Consolat de Mar government offices in Palma to ask the Government of José Ramón Bauzá to stop the decline in the industrial sector in the Balearics.

The Unions were complaining specifically about the lack of financial support for industry in the State budget for 2013. They also complained that the Partido Popular government currently in power in the Balearics doesn't appear to have any strong policies on industry. Representatives said that the Balearic Special Regime set up in 1998 to help the Islands overcome its economic disadvantages by virtue of their being distanced geographically from the mainland appears to be having little effect. The Balearics is struggling to be competitive said the unions.
