Palma.—The Balearic Government's Inspector for Employment and Social Security has opened an investigation into the alleged irregular employment of 14 Romanian hostelry students by the Barcelo Hotel and Resorts group at the Majorcan chain's emblematic Hotel Formentor.

As a result of the alleged irregularities being reported and exposed both the hotel's manager and head of human resources have been sacked “as of immediate effect.” The alleged irregularities were reported to the Balearic Government's Inspector for Employment and Social Security last week.
Apparently, the 14 Romanian students were employed to work in the kitchen and cleaning departments along with carrying out other functions apparently illegally.

According to the hotel chain, the hostelry students were placed “by an intermediary” and expressed its “indignation” over the alleged fraudulent behaviour of the intermediary to which it has fallen victim.

The hotel chain said that it has offered the Balearic authorities and unions its full cooperation in order to clear up the alleged mistake.
The UGT union has not taken the incident lightly however and has formally denounced the Barcelo Group.
